Andy Romanoff
Los Angeles, CA
Age 82
What keeps you excited in the studio?
Doing new things. I am currently creating soundscapes to go with videos I am making of thousands of pictures I made as part of a project called 15,000 Buddhas
Looking back at your trajectory as an artist, how would you say your work has developed?
Through fits and starts. I began by shooting street photography although it didn’t have that name yet, got into the film business, worked as a cinematographer, got waylaid by technology and business and came back to making my own work about twelve years ago.
What role do you think the artist has in today’s society?
Same as it ever was. To inspire, to comment, to stir, to anger, to bring peace, to offer beauty.
What’s the most important advice you could give to an aspiring artist?
Listen first to your heart. Everything else is technique, fashion or opinion.
Does age matter in art? Why or why not?
Youth is great, you know so much less. Age is great, you know what’s important to you.
What can we look forward to from you next?
More videos, more stories and maybe another book
Is there anything else you would like to share about being an artist later in life?
Rejoice, rejoice, we have no choice
