Jora Nelstein
Los Angeles, CA
Age 64
What keeps you excited in the studio?
Entering a place where it’s all about creating art
Looking back at your trajectory as an artist, how would you say your work has developed?
There is less fear and more boldness. Allowing myself to make works for the sake of creating.
What role do you think the artist has in today’s society?
A bridge. The ability to touch people in ways that might be surprising to them as well as the artist. Provoking thoughts, feelings and emotions through the visual.
What’s the most important advice you could give to an aspiring artist?
Try not to compare yourself with others.
Does age matter in art? Why or why not?
Age doesn’t matter. Creating has nothing to do with age.
What can we look forward to from you next?
There is something exciting on the horizon I cannot yet talk about, but I’m in the middle of creating a few pieces which are the second phase of my “Passage Los Angeles” series.
Is there anything else you would like to share about being an artist later in life?
I love having more and more time to spend in my studio.
