What keeps you excited in the studio?
I have an obsession to create that’s continued throughout my career.
Looking back at your trajectory as an artist, how would you say your work has developed?
Early on in my career I had several museum exhibitions which generated momentum across a broad spectrum of disciplines including installations, exhibitions, and public art works. I was recognized in major publications, grants and awards. As I’ve aged I have broadened my perspectives and my art has become more layered in environmental and social issues such as rare earth mining in juxtaposition to symbols of wealth and power.
What role do you think the artist has in today’s society?
We keep creativity alive. we are explores and investigators.
What’s the most important advice you could give to an aspiring artist?
Find your own voice and keep working.
Does age matter in art? Why or why not?
Yes, age matters because you build a repertory of skills and your own visual vocabulary and this only comes with dedication to your practice.
What can we look forward to from you next?
A comprehensive display of artwork from my entire careeer in one place.
Is there anything else you would like to share about being an artist later in life?
art making keeps you alive, keeps you engaged and keeps you young (at heart) and hopefully, relevant.
