Nancy Levinson
California
Age 71

What keeps you excited in the studio?
That perfect brushstroke or a painting well done.

Looking back at your trajectory as an artist, how would you say your work has developed?
I see the confidence in my work as my skill level improved after years of classes and workshops. Going back to school for my masters in my late sixties added skill and gave me the validation I wanted.

What role do you think the artist has in today’s society?
To change the way people see. And hopefully, the way they think.

What’s the most important advice you could give to an aspiring artist?
Be a daily painter or creator. Show up and never give up. Never stop learning and growing.

Does age matter in art? Why or why not?
Not where the work is concerned but sometimes the energy and lack of “tech knowledge” can be overwhelming and difficult to navigate. This impacts confidence and makes me feel even older. Age doesn’t matter as long as you stay current and continue to grow.

What can we look forward to from you next?
A series that is consistent and fun.

Is there anything else you would like to share about being an artist later in life?
I had a career in design then raised two children. I was a frustrated artist and finally got to devote my life to painting and drawing.
