Raghubir Kintisch
Los Angeles, CA
Age 69
What keeps you excited in the studio?
the freedom and joy I experience when I’m at work/play
Looking back at your trajectory as an artist, how would you say your work has developed?
it has become more personal over time and more authentic as a result
What role do you think the artist has in today’s society?
TO IGNITE – and it can be the ignition of anything: a conversation, a memory, a feeling, an idea, a shift or transformation, an altered state of consciousness, a disruption in the status quo, a new way of seeing and being, or a sense of resolve that everything is just fine as it is.
What’s the most important advice you could give to an aspiring artist?
Give yourself time to develop. Working at it should be your priority. Be yourself and trust in your instincts. Don’t take yourself too seriously. And don’t give a shit what anyone else thinks.
Does age matter in art? Why or why not?
Yes. Because experience matters. Even it your art doesn’t improve, your character will. And as you get older, you care less and less what other people think.
What can we look forward to from you next?
I am currently getting ready to go on residency for a few months and I hope to continue to respond to the nature around me. But since I generally follow my nose on these things, there’s no telling what might happen!
Is there anything else you would like to share about being an artist later in life?
It’s the best time to be an artist.
