Age 60
What keeps you excited in the studio?
Listening to electronic dance music like the iconic Pet Shop Boys really gets my excitement going in the studio. Time just flies away as I plan, sing, tape and paint all day.
Looking back at your trajectory as an artist, how would you say your work has developed?
My current artwork is a compilation of everything I have done before. History and memories of my life are very important for my subject matter. At this point in my life I have so much to choose from.
What role do you think the artist has in today’s society?
Be a nice person.
What’s the most important advice you could give to an aspiring artist?
Go ahead and try all of those wild and crazy ideas you are thinking of way back in your mind. Enjoy yourself, have fun and don’t put plastic on the floor.
Does age matter in art? Why or why not?
I don’t think so, we can create at any age.
What can we look forward to from you next?
My latest pieces make me so happy and I feel like I finally got back in a zone at age 60! I will be making more paintings reflecting moments of time from my childhood and the world around me.
Is there anything else you would like to share about being an artist later in life?
Time feels shorter on this end of my life span. I plan to concentrate on making paintings I love and everything else is secondary.
