The devastating performance of 143, Katy Perry‘s last album, did not go well for the pop artist, who is desperate to make a comeback in the music industry. Perhaps it is time to heal from the fatal wounds with her latest creation, ‘bandaids’. This single has recently dropped, bringing more hope to Perry’s fans and evoking the nostalgic taste of her peak era in the 2000s-2010s. The song has been released with an official music video, and it seems like the pop artist has successfully recreated the fatality of the movie franchise ‘Final Destination’. However, it can be considered as a metaphoric representation of her life right now.

Katy Perry is currently on a streak of misfortune, and her flop ‘143’ is one of them, which also explains why the artist dropped this single so soon after the release of the album. Starting from a disturbing stage crasher to a malfunction of a metal sphere and butterfly prop, a fan collapsing on stage, and last but not least, a breakup with actor Orlando Bloom, Perry is having a rough time. Perhaps the release of the ‘bandaids’ showcases that she is healing in her own way, but the wounds are deep. The music video has successfully portrayed the situation with a series of accidents; however, Perry successfully dodges all of them until the final climax. Touche to director Christian Breslauer as he managed to recreate the iconic highway accident scene from Final Destination, the first part, where logs come at full throttle at your car. There are also many other situations, like getting hand struck in a garbage disposal, getting electrocuted at a Tesla charging station, getting foot stuck on the railroad when a train is coming, drowning in mud, and lastly, lighting a cigarette in a gas station and getting a blast. The disastrous period of her life and career is well represented in the official music video, which has already garnered much attention.

If seen lyrically, “bandaids” is definitely a song about heartbreak, and that explains her emotions related to Orlando Bloom. However, the pop star did not wait much and found Justin Trudeau, the former Canadian Prime Minister, as her current dating partner, or let’s say, human band-aid to her wounds. The emotional turmoil of the Bloom breakup worked as a great subject matter for the song, which also carries a retro pop aura. Breakup materials are always great for pop tracks, and Katy knows that well as a pop star. She has justified it is that way and made sure to offer the familiar taste of pop that most listeners are used to and can relate to. Perhaps this single could be that project that revives her career, which her album ‘143’ could not. Either way, the former judge of American Idol is not looking forward to kissing contestants anymore. She is thriving well and about to hit the top charts again.

Perry’s “bandaids” is a strongly written track which can reflect a bitterly perfect love as she sings “On the bright side/We had good times/Never faked our pictures/We were perfect/Til we weren’t.” Then, there are lines like, “If I had to do it all over again / I would still do it all over again,” and “The love that we made was worth it in the end.” It is evident that she is not hard on Bloom, and the acceptance goes a long way. In the official music video, the last cigarette she lights at the gas station seemed like a deliberate move rather than an accident, while you can hear ‘Woman’s World’ in the background. It’s a perfect climax!
