Earlier this year, DC Comics debuted a new manga-inspired line called DC Compact Comics, which prints iconic stories in a more affordable format the size of a typical manga volume. These accessible paperback editions have flown off the shelves, and the line will now be expanding in 2025 with new releases and reprints for the high-selling first wave.
Following the success of the collection’s launch, the DC Compact Comics line will be receiving a new wave of comics, with fifteen exciting titles set to release throughout 2025, all listed on DC.com. These include fan-favorite series like Batman: The Long Halloween, DC: The New Frontier, and many more – in addition to second and third printings for comics such as All-Star Superman and Far Sector.
With a new wave of DC Compact Comics on the horizon, longtime fans of classic stories and manga readers seeking a jumping-on point into American superhero comics can all look forward to checking out the upcoming releases in 2025.
The success of DC Compact Comics can be attributed to its smaller trim size and $9.99 price point. Thanks to the affordable pricing, these comics have become less intimidating to newcomers, as purchasing one is no different from purchasing a standard manga volume. The format of DC Compact Comics isn’t the only aspect that has contributed to its astounding success in the market, either. Anne DePies – the Senior Vice President and general manager of DC Comics – had this to say about DC Compact Comics’ availability to readers:
The DC Compact Comics collection is now available at airports, libraries, select mass market and online retailers, plus bookstores, local comics shops, and more. We want to make it as easy as possible for readers to discover more from DC’s extensive library of comics. DC Compact Comics are an affordable entry point to the DC Universe, and every title is a new-reader-friendly, self-contained graphic novel.

DC Comics and Marvel may have found popularity with their Absolute and Ultimate lines, but they won’t be replacing the main universes anytime soon.
DC Compact Comics’ accessibility extends to its placement on shelves outside comic stores, in addition to its sizing and pricing. Comics aren’t always sold in mainstream outlets, so the DC Compact Comics line being sold in places that receive constant traffic from the public is key to its overwhelming success. Western comics have long tried to emulate the financial success of manga, and branching out to shelves that manga volumes can be found on is a critical step in that direction. DC Comics’ new line appeals to manga readers in a way that superhero comics never have before, beyond sharing the appearance of manga.
Because DC Compact Comics consists of standalone stories, readers aren’t required to have a deep familiarity with DC Comics’ extensive lore and continuity. One of the main detractors against Marvel and DC’s comics tends to be the convoluted history that gives newcomers trouble following the narrative. Luckily, DC Compact Comics does away with that issue by offering easy entry points at a low price. Manga readers who are used to the size and accessibility of the medium can jump right into comics with this collection, and in 2025, the DC Compact Comics line will continue to grow and welcome new readers into DC Comics.
