Xbox Game Pass subscriptions could be changing, according to an industry insider. Currently, the subscription is considered one of the better deals in gaming, with over 100 titles including most genres, with a regularly changing roster that includes beloved classics and day-one releases on the majority of its tiers.

Xbox Game Pass Core, which replaced Xbox Live Gold, contains a smaller library of critically acclaimed titles, but no day-one releases.

Industry insider Shinobi602 has claimed on ResetEra that the reported addition of the Call of Duty series to Game Pass will bring “changes. Many had speculated that Call of Duty would eventually get added to the subscription after Microsoft acquired the series’ developer Activision last year, and a report from the Wall Street Journal indicated that this will finally happen with this year’s release, which is rumored to be a new entry in the Black Ops story, taking place in the Gulf War.

Could Call of Duty Bring A New Price Increase To Game Pass?

Or A New Tier For The Shooter Series?

As of the time of writing, Shinobi602 didn’t elaborate further as to what these changes could be, but there was plenty of speculation on the thread surrounding a price increase or even a new subscription tier to accompany Call of Duty‘s inclusion on Game Pass. If so, this would match an earlier report that Microsoft had contemplated a price hike for the Game Pass Ultimate tier, theorizing that this could offset some of the revenue that could have been lost by launching a Call of Duty title on Game Pass.

Considering the variety of different types of gamers subscribed to Xbox Game Pass, and the range of titles already on there to accommodate fans of all kinds of genres, increasing the subscription across the board just for Call of Duty will likely cause some controversy among those who don’t play shooters and wouldn’t be getting the best out of this new arrangement. Therefore, adding a new tier or add-on similar to the ones for Ubisoft, EA or Rockstar Games for Activision’s titles would likely be a fairer way to resolve this if the studio is concerned about losing money by launching Call of Duty games on Game Pass.

Xbox has already announced the [REDACTED] Direct for June 9 with an image that resembled the Call of Duty: Black Ops series. Therefore, it’s likely that not only will fans of the series get their first proper look at the new title at the event, but with it coming directly after the Xbox Games Showcase, it could potentially address the Xbox Game Pass restructuring and let subscribers know exactly what changes are in store.
