Meta Quest 3 is an excellent way for families to enjoy VR. With the option to add additional accounts, everyone can have their own custom settings. Unfortunately, the Meta Quest system doesn’t make setting up one account easy, which means adding additional ones can be even more confusing.
Even though the option to add additional accounts to your Meta Quest 3 headset exists, only three additional accounts can be added for a total of four on each device. Furthermore, you won’t be able to set up the additional accounts at the same time as the initial account since the first account will be required to set up the Meta Quest 3 headset itself.
Before starting, it’s important to know that this process can be incredibly frustrating even if you’re doing everything right, so patience is going to be the most important factor here. Right out of the box, you should first ensure that your Meta Quest headset and controllers are charged. If not, go ahead and charge them fully before beginning the startup process to avoid having any issues once you’ve started the process.

How To Play Steam Games On Meta Quest 2 & 3
One headset feature for the Meta Quest 2 & 3 is the ability to play different Steam games through virtual reality, but only with the right system.
Once fully charged, put on your headset and adjust the straps to a comfortable fit. The headset should rest comfortably on your head and feel secure with movement. If not, you may need to tighten the straps. When the headset is ready, grab both of your controllers and turn it on. If this is your first time turning on the device, you will see a couple of pop-ups that discuss adjusting the head straps and lenses to your comfort settings.
These settings will be different for everyone, so follow the instructions on the screen until you find the right ones. When you’re ready to proceed, the next step is to connect to Wi-Fi. Once you’ve connected successfully to your local network, proceed. You will then see a screen asking you to download the Meta Horizon app on one of your mobile devices. Keep note of the code on this screen in case you need it for manual pairing.

Your headset may need to complete an update at this point, so you will move on to finishing setup in the app while the headset does this. On the Meta Horizon app, you will be asked to log in or create an account. Here, you have a few options. If you went through the setup process on the Meta Quest 2 and have an account, you can log in with the same account and transfer it to the new headset. If not, you can set up an account with your Facebook, if you have one, or create a new account via email.
If you transfer over your Meta Quest 2 account, you will have access to all your previous purchases on the new headset, including all of your VR games on the Meta Quest 2.
Select Continue with Email to begin setting up a new account. Then, follow the prompts on the screen to complete the account setup with your email and password. Once your account is ready, the app will bring you to a homepage. You should then be prompted with a pop-up asking if you are setting up a headset. Select Set up a Headset, and then select the model of your Meta Quest headset.
If you don’t get the headset Set Up pop-up in the app. Select your profile icon at the bottom, go to the three-line icon in the top right corner, and then select Devices under the Device Management section. There, you will find an option to connect to a new device.
Your phone should take a moment to search for the headset before displaying a green checkmark indicating that the pairing is complete. If it fails to connect, it will ask you for a code; put on the headset, and you should see a code at the bottom of the screen for manual pairing. Type this code into the phone and allow it to pair manually. Once it does, you are ready to begin using your headset.
If the device still fails to pair at this point, try disconnecting and reconnecting the Wi-Fi, ensuring your phone and the Quest are connected to the same network, rebooting the Meta Quest, or, if you’re desperate, performing a factory restart on the Meta Quest and starting all over. As stated, this process can be tedious, so follow all instructions carefully to minimize frustrations.
Once you have everything set up with the initial account, you can add additional accounts to your Meta Quest headset. To start, you’ll need to be in the main hub room, where you can press the Meta button on your right controller to bring up the small docked menu at the bottom of the screen. Once the menu populates, select the settings icon on the far right of the menu, which you can identify by hovering over the icons if you’re unsure which icon it is.

When the settings screen opens, you should see a tab option that says Accounts. Select that, and you will be brought to a screen indicating the accounts on the current headset you’re wearing. If you’ve only set up the initial account, that is the only one you should see on this screen. You will also see the indicator letting you know that only three additional accounts can be added and that admins may change the settings of other accounts on the device, a great feature for parents sharing headsets with kids.
At the top right of this screen, you should see a button that says Add Account. Select that, and a pop-up should ask whether you would like to share apps. If you would like apps shared across accounts, you can select Share Apps or skip the option altogether and return to it later.
App Sharing can always be turned on later from the Accounts tab in Settings, where you add other accounts. At the bottom of where the accounts are listed, there is a tab option to turn on or off App Sharing at any time.
Once you’ve selected your options for app sharing, the next pop-up will ask you to ensure the headset is actively connected to the internet and instruct you to pass the headset to the person who is setting up the new account, or you can do it for them. Either way, hit continue once the headset is on for whoever will be setting up the account, and from there, the steps will be relatively the same as the ones above for setting up the initial account on the Meta Quest 3.
