The identity of Matthew Lillard’s Daredevil: Born Again season 2 character has been confirmed, and he has an important connection to Wilson Fisk/Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio). In February 2025, the Scream and Scooby-Doo star was reported to have joined the cast, but his role remained under wraps.
Daredevil: Born Again season 1’s ending saw Fisk further cementing his control over New York City after previously being elected as mayor. Matthew Murdock/Daredevil (Charlie Cox) is now uniting with allies and assembling an army of his own to take the city back from Fisk.
While speaking with Entertainment Weekly at New York Comic Con, Marvel TV producer Brad Winderbaum has now revealed that Lillard is playing a character named Mr. Charles, who is “a bit of a new antagonist on the field” for Fisk and among “power players on the international stage.” Check out Winderbaum’s additional comments below:
The story is about power. When Wilson Fisk takes over New York, not just as a mayor but as a king in a way, it puts him in a new class of power players on the international stage. Matthew Lillard’s character represents that.
But he’s as influential, in many ways, as Fisk is. That power negotiation at a very high level of politics and international diplomacy is also fun to watch. [Fisk] is dealing with Mr. Charles up here and Daredevil [Charlie Cox] down here for different reasons. So he’s getting squeezed a little bit.
More to come…
