Netflix Scores Historic Grammy Nominations with ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ and “Golden”

November 8, 2025 - Movies

Netflix could be set to add to several previous Grammy wins thanks to one of the biggest movies in the world – a movie that was not really theirs until it was handed to them on a plate by Sony in one of the most dubious bits of decision-making in Hollywood history. Not only that, but the movie in question, KPop Demon Hunters, is already breaking records with four Grammy nominations.

In what is possibly the least surprising piece of news, the announcement of this year’s Grammy nods included a place for KPop Demon Hunters’ banger “Golden” among the nominees for Song of the Year, as performed by the fictional group Huntr/x in the movie, who in turn are voiced by Ejae, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami. Not content with that, the song is also in the running for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, Best Song Written for Visual Media, and Best Remixed Recording (for David Guetta’s remix). The KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack is also nominated for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media.

While K-Pop has often been overlooked in the past, the unparalleled success of KPop Demon Hunters – which is now back at the top of the Netflix chart again despite now being on Netflix for almost five months – has opened many more doors than anyone believed possible.

In a statement to Variety shortly after the Grammy nominations were announced, Ejae admitted, “I’m not able to digest this time. I’m still in shock.” Ami added, “It feels out of this world.” For Nuna, the biggest win so far is what the nominations mean for K-Pop representation at the Grammys and beyond. She said:

“You’re going to see three Korean faces. To think about the kids who are going to see that, and hopefully for that to shape their understanding of what they can do in this world, is the stuff that is giving me chills up my spine.”

It is hard to play down just how catchy the songs of KPop Demon Hunters are, and that has been proven by the continued success of “Golden” and several other songs in the Billboard Charts and on other music charts around the world. “Golden” held the top spot on the U.S. chart for eight consecutive weeks from August to October, and in all has spent 14 non-consecutive weeks in the number one spot.

While this kind of success is a huge indicator to the chances “Golden” has of taking home at least one of the awards it is nominated for, the song has some tough competition to claim Song of the Year, including from another South Korean, Rosé, who teamed up with Bruno Mars on “Apt.” The other six Song of the Year nominees are: Lady Gaga’s “Abracadabra,” Doechii’s “Jaylah,” Bad Bunny’s “DtMF,” Kendrick Lamar with SZA’s “Luther,” Sabrina Carpenter’s “Manchild,” and Billie Eilish’s “Wildflower.”

There are still a few months until the Grammy winners are announced in February, but at the rate it is going, there is every chance KPop Demon Hunters will still be circling the top of the Netflix chart when it discovers if it has made history with several Grammy firsts.
