One Day Episode 2’s Opening Music Is From The Opera Madame Butterfly

The second episode of One Day takes place in 1989, one year after Dexter and Emma began their friendship. Dexter spends time in Rome with his mother as Emma and her friends work out their drama performances in England. The episode eerily opens with the song “Un Bel Di Vedremo Maria Callas” from the famous tragic opera Madame Butterfly.

The use of this music in episode 2 serves as a subtle hint that the story of Dexter and Emma will have a similar ending to the opera.

Madame Butterfly is recognized as one of the most tragic operas ever created. It depicts a horrifically tragic romance where none of the characters get the happy ending they desire, similar to the end of this story. The use of this music in episode 2 serves as a subtle hint that the story of Dexter and Emma will have a similar ending to the opera.
