Tony Stark’s Iron Man armor fuses with Ultron as the Armored Avenger risks everything to redeem one of the Avengers’ most dangerous foes. Iron Man is always looking for the next upgrade, but no-one expected him to merge his iconic suit with the maniacal android. However, Tony’s decision isn’t just about power – it’s a sign of how committed he is to bringing Ultron over to the side of the angels.
Ultron usually creates its chassis out of unbreakable vibranium, making this a major upgrade that would render Iron Man unbreakable…
In Marvel’s ongoing West Coast Avengers series, Tony is trying to redeem Ultron by bringing a heroic version of the robot onto his new team. Now, in a staggering variant cover for West Coast Avengers #8, artist Godtail shows Ultron coating Iron Man’s armor, turning him into a fusion of Armored Avenger and Mad Android.
Notably, the face of the armor is half Iron Man, half Ultron – the same look that Ultron had in its previous villain era, when it was pretending to be merged with its creator Hank Pym. Ultron usually creates its chassis out of unbreakable vibranium, making this a major upgrade that would render Iron Man unbreakable, as well as using Ultron’s genius intellect for his suit’s AI.

Iron Man: Who Are the Avenger’s Most Powerful Villains?
Tony Stark may often be called the Invincible Iron Man, but the Armored Avenger has more than a few enemies who can put his mettle to the test.
Recently, West Coast Avengers readers learned that Ultron has split into multiple new beings, looking for a new way to try and thrive in a world where its plans and schemes are constantly foiled. One of the most extreme new Ultrons has decided to live a heroic life, protecting and uplifting humanity to see if working together could be a way to prosper. Having inspected this new Ultron’s code, Tony has become a true believer in the new robot’s heroic potential – even though the Avengers suspect that Tony is being played.
This new alliance will seemingly culminate in West Coast Avengers #8, with Godtail’s art suggesting the two will merge their technology. This makes sense, as they’ll be going up against another of the new Ultrons – this one having embraced the idea of starting its own religion, turning its army of human followers into fanatical cyborgs.
While Tony is taking a big risk by merging Ultron into his sytems, it’s fair payback for their prior team-up. West Coast Avengers recently revealed that – after Ultron attempted to sacrifice itself to save the Earth – Tony sent his armor to protect the Mad Android, making him responsible for whatever it does next. Fans have already seen an Iron Man-armored Ultron, but now they’re seemingly getting an Ultron-armored Iron Man, as Tony Stark turns one of the Avengers’ greatest villains into his latest upgrade.
West Coast Avengers #7 is coming May 7 from Marvel Comics.
