dani mack – fleabag :: Indie Shuffle

August 5, 2022 - Music

It’s hard to believe that this is the follow-up to dani mack’s debut single. And what’s more, it was self-produced by the band with the addition of drums and mixing by Whistler Isaiah of Hippo Campus. “fleabag” could easily sit in any editorial playlist of established indie artists. It’s got a depth of meaning, a stellar vocal performance, and earworm potential as the audience sings “Will God forgive me for the things I’ve done?” after one listen.

The youth of today face a moving away from the devout relationship with religion like that of their parents. Therefore they are left questioning and a little afraid. With “fleabag,” dani mack peers into this dilemma.

“I grew up a devout Christian and letting go of the guilt that was instilled in me from such a young age is still something I still struggle with. There’s still a little part of me that’s afraid that come judgment day, I’m not getting into those pearly gates because I had premarital sex with some guy from a dating app.”
