It’s good to be back? Teen Wolf: The Movie reunited the gang back in Beacon Hills — but not everyone made it out alive.

After spending the entire film trying to protect his son Eli Hale (Vince Mattis), Derek Hale (Tyler Hoechlin) ultimately died as a sacrifice in the battle against the Nogitsune and Oni. Meanwhile, Allison Argent (Crystal Reed) was mysteriously resurrected and finally got her happily ever after with Scott McCall (Tyler Posey).

The Paramount+ film, which was released on Thursday, January 26, arrived nearly five years after the original Teen Wolf series came to an end. The MTV show became a cultural phenomenon when it introduced the story of a young werewolf who defends his town from supernatural threats and various villains.

Ahead of the movie’s premiere, Posey teased how his character has changed since the show wrapped.

“Beacon Hills royally messed him up and everybody else that was living there — except for Peter Hale (Ian Bohen), he thrives in Beacon Hills,” the actor told Entertainment Weekly in June 2022. “But Scott’s wanting to make a change. He lives in Los Angeles now. He wanted to get out, try a new life, try something else on for size, maybe step away from the leadership role a little bit.”

The Now Apocalypse alum added: “As great of a leader as Scott was innately, instinctually, it’s confusing growing up in that world. It takes a toll. Discovering who you are as a human, as an adult, while also trying to save the world, you kind of need to sacrifice one for the other. He wanted to figure himself out, discover himself a little bit. And he’s more relaxed when we first pick up. It’s definitely a different version of him — but then he might have to resort to old ways when Beacon Hills summons him back.”

Fans were also intrigued by the revelation that Derek became a father off screen. According to Hoechlin, the new chapter comes with its “ups and downs” for Derek.

“I really loved where Derek started on the show and where his story ended,” the Superman & Lois star shared at the time. “For me, it was a very, very well-told, full story, so I thought it was a great thing to come back as a father and for his new challenge to not be about himself and figuring out who he was but trying to guide his son through that same process.”

Viewers, however, didn’t get answers about all of their favorite characters. Notable alums Dylan O’Brien, Arden Cho and Cody Christian did not reprise their roles in Teen Wolf: The Movie. In June 2022, a report leaked that alleged Cho was offered half the per-episode salary compared to her counterparts to return.

The Partner Track alum, for her part, weighed in on the rumors that same month. “I think I was actually offered even less,” she claimed in an interview with The Cut, noting that she previously didn’t plan to address her decision not to appear in the film. “I probably would’ve never shared it.”

Cho continued: “I could probably, off the top of my head, think of over ten Asian American actors I know who were paid significantly less than their counterparts. Sometimes you don’t have a choice to say ‘No.’ Sometimes you just need it. You’ve got bills to pay.”

Scroll down to see where every Teen Wolf ended up in the Paramount+ film:

Scott McCall
Since the MTV series ended, Scott moved to Los Angeles with Dr. Deaton (Seth Gilliam) and opened up an animal shelter. However, he still misses Allison which prevents him from moving on and starting a family. Scott returns to his hometown to help Allison’s father (JR Bourne) find peace — but instead brings her back to life with Lydia (Holland Roden) and Malia’s (Shelley Hennig) help.
Following the showdown with the Nogitsune, Scott and Allison return to start a life together in LA. The couple also take responsibility for Eli after Derek’s death.

Allison Argent
More than a decade after her death, Allison begins to reappear to Scott and Argent in visions. Her ex-boyfriend and father team up to help her move on because they believe she is stuck. Instead, Scott brings her back to life, and she is manipulated by the Nogitsune to hunt down the wolves in town.
Allison injures Scott with wolfsbane — but he is able to convince her of their history which pushes her to save his life. The hunter’s memory is restored as she fights alongside Scott, Lydia and all of her loved ones. She later gets back together with Scott, and they agree to presumably raise Eli in Los Angeles.

Lydia Martin
The banshee moved away from Beacon Hills to San Fransisco in order to work in energy harvesting. Lydia and Stiles’ relationship (and subsequent split) is a major topic of discussion when she reunites with her friends. She later admits to Jackson (Colton Haynes) that she left her boyfriend after having ongoing dreams about Stiles dying in a car crash with her.
Lydia chose to part ways with Stiles because she thought it could stop his potential death. After surviving the events in Beacon Hills, it remains unclear where Lydia and Stiles stand now.

Derek Hale
The Hale Auto owner is one of the few characters who remained in his hometown since the events of the original series. Derek struggles with raising his son, Eli, because they aren’t able to connect. Eli seemingly has trouble turning into a werewolf after witnessing Derek’s shift at a young age.
Throughout the film, Derek stops at nothing to protect his son. He makes his final sacrifice by holding the Nogitsune back so Parrish can burn him — which kills Derek in the process.

Liam Dunbar
The former lacrosse player (Dylan Sprayberry) relocated to Japan where he helps run a restaurant with girlfriend Hikari (Amy Lin Workman). The duo are the first ones to realize danger was coming after a mysterious person released the Nogitsune.
Liam and Hikari return to Beacon Hills to help Mason (Khylin Rhambo) and the others defeat the evil presence in their hometown.

Stiles Stilinski
Due to O’Brien’s absence, Stiles does not appear on screen throughout the film. He is mentioned when Derek suggests that Sheriff Stilinski (Linden Ashby) call his son to get his help with some escalating fires. His father, however, says Stiles has “his own fires” to put out.
Stiles’ beloved car also makes several appearances when Eli steals the vehicle in the beginning of the film. Derek’s son gets the car from Stiles’ dad at the end of the movie.

Jackson Whittemore
Lydia calls Jackson for help when she returns to Beacon Hills. The former football player mentions that his trip is quick because Ethan (Charlie Carver) — who is presumably still his boyfriend — didn’t like him coming back. Jackson and Lydia face off against Adrian Harris (Adam Fristoe) — and he supports his ex-girlfriend as she finds the courage to wail again to save Allison.

Malia Tate
The werewolf stayed behind in Beacon Hills since the events of the original series. Although Malia and Scott are still in an awkward place following their breakup, Peter’s biological daughter developed a casual relationship with Jordan Parrish (Ryan Kelley) off screen.
In the film, Malia refuses to face Parrish’s feelings for her before the battle. The pair get to a better place when Malia decides to commit to the deputy after their life or death circumstances.

Eli Hale
The newcomer, who is reminiscent of a teenage Stiles, can’t get on the same page as his dad at the beginning of the film. After stealing Stiles’ truck, Eli and Derek discuss their differences, and the audience learns that the younger Hale hasn’t turned into a werewolf yet.
Eli gets injured playing lacrosse, which puts him at a disadvantage when Allison starts to hunt him down. Although Derek saves his son, Eli continues to be the main person at risk throughout the film. He is able to tap into his supernatural powers after some help from Scott — and that allows Eli and Derek to wolf out together.
However, Derek sacrifices himself multiple times and dies at the end of the film. Eli receives Stiles’ car from Sheriff Stilinski as a gift before he moves to Los Angeles with Scott and Allison as his caretakers.

Peter Hale
The antagonist returns to help Scott’s mother (Melissa Ponzio) and Allison’s father track down their children as a looming threat fixates on Beacon Hills. Peter and Argent continue to face off until the Allison stabs the werewolf with wolfsbane. Malia’s father presumably survives the poison following the battle.
