January 30, 2024 - Culture

In the wake of the Supergirl casting new yesterday, which we first told you about, with House of the Dragon‘s Milly Alcock nabbing the highly coveted role; DC co-boss James Gunn continued to beam today.

“In case you missed this exciting news yesterday. Strangely, Milly was the FIRST person I brought up to Peter (Safran) for this role, well over a year ago, when I had only read the comics,” Gunn posted on Threads.

“I was watching House of the Dragon & thought she might have the edge, grace & authenticity we needed for the DCU’s Supergirl. And now here we are. Life is wild sometimes,” the Guardians of the Galaxy architect continued.

Alcock beat out DC animation Supergirl voiceover actress Meg Donnelly for the role, as well as CODA‘s Emilia Jones. Alcock’s Supergirl will appear in a DC-based project before headlining her own movie, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow based on Tom King’s 2022 comic book. No director selected for that project, however, an autumn start for the movie is being eyed.

Gunn’s second DC directed feature, Superman: Legacy, goes before the cameras this March in Georgia.
