Baldur’s Gate 3 Player Has A PSA About One Of The Game’s Best Weapons

With so many items and pieces of equipment for the party to find in Baldur’s Gate 3, it’s no surprise that sometimes players overlook what everything does. As the party journeys through each act, finding better gear along the way, it can be far too easy to forget what everyone has equipped and the impact that might have outside of battle. And there is one particularly powerful fan-favorite weapon which players need to keep an eye on, especially once they reach Act 3.

User Mister_Sosotris shared a vital PSA on Reddit as they explained their amusing encounter with two vampire spawn in Fraygo’s Flophouse. In their post, they say that they couldn’t stop laughing as the two spawn, needed for Astarion’s personal quest, poofed” into thin air rather than speak with the party. The culprit was immediately obvious to them, as they explained that they had forgotten that Shadowheart had The Blood of Lathander equipped.

The Blood Of Lathander Is Great Against Undead Enemies

The Holy Weapon Has Multiple Features That Are Great In & Out Of Combat

The Blood of Lathander is a fantastic weapon that can be grabbed by the party fairly early in Baldur’s Gate 3. The legendary mace can be found as the party attempts to escape the githyanki crèche in the Rosymorn Monastery. In keeping with the game’s powerful deity who gives the weapon its name, the Blood of Lathander can be devastating when used against undead enemies and comes with the brilliant level six spell Sunbeam, which can be used once per long rest.

The Blood of Lathander’s light also works to keep the Shadow Curse at bay to a certain extent, but does not work as effectively as the Pixie’s Blessing.

The Blood of Lathander is perfect when venturing into the Shadow-Cursed Lands in Act 2, as its passive ability sheds holy light in a six-meter/20-foot radius, which has the potential to blind fiends and undead. However, this passive, Lathander’s Light, can cause some major problems in Act 3 while the party is attempting to resolve Astarion’s quest and deciding whether he should complete the ritual or not.

Double-Checking Equipment Effects Is Vital

Slowing Down To Check Passive Effects Can Save Reloads

It is always a good idea to double-check what equipment each party member has, especially during the late stages of BG3. I’ve fallen into this trap myself and completely forgotten that my cleric had the Blood of Lathander equipped when trying to speak with Dalyria and Petras, causing them both to vanish. However, there is a way around this issue, by toggling the passive Lathander’s Light off, which can be done by looking in the passives tab of the character’s action bar.

Baldur’s Gate 3: Where To Find The Blood Of Lathander

The Blood of Lathander is a legendary weapon in Baldur’s Gate 3 that you can find by exploring a Monastery for ceremonial artifacts during a quest.

After the Shadow-Cursed Lands in Act 2 of Baldur’s Gate 3, there is no reason to have the holy light passive active, and it can cause other issues, as others in the comments of the post also mention. If Gandrel is alive, and the Gur children along with the rest of the 7000 spawn were freed, then the Gur hunter may be encountered in the sewers later in Act 3. Unfortunately, having the Blood of Lathander’s passive holy light active will cause the vampire children to flee, resulting in Gandrel becoming hostile.
