We’ve come a long way from seeing movies in theaters to streaming them in our homes on various platforms. While you won’t get the same experience as watching them in theaters, most films are still ideal to watch from the comfort of your couch. In that regard, AMC+ is among the best and most underrated streaming services in the world, thanks to its consistent monthly releases of films and TV shows.
In December, we saw several movies come to AMC+, such as It’s a Wonderful Knife, Silent Night, and The Sacrifice Game, but the streamer has already announced another packed schedule for the following month. It includes new premieres like Muzzle as well as classic horrors from other AMC Networks. So, without further ado, here is every movie coming to AMC+ in January 2024.
When it comes to psychological paranoia, The Babadook is one of the scariest horror movies. It will be released on AMC+ in January as part of a featured collection commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Sundance Film Festival. The featured collection also includes films such as Boyhood, God’s Country, Birth/Rebirth, Sleeping with Other People, and Watcher.
Amelia, who lost her husband six years ago, is struggling to raise her rebellious six-year-old son, Samuel. Samuel is haunted by an entity after discovering a storybook named “Babadook,” and ever since, he has grown much more violent, causing Amelia to medicate him. However, when she begins to sense the sinister presence of the entity, she realizes that Samuel may have been right all along.
Alongside The Babadook and many other films, Watcher, a 2022 psychological thriller, is also being released on AMC+ as a featured collection. The film is a quality thriller that somewhat exposes what’s wrong with other recent thrillers. Watcher follows Julia, a young American woman who recently moved to Bucharest with her husband, hoping to start a new life. However, her life is thrown upside down when she begins to suspect that a stranger is stalking her, more so when the stalker turns out to be a serial killer decapitating women in the city. Watcher will be available to stream on AMC+ on Jan. 1.
For decades, movie studios have memorably told stories of stalkers and obsessive love, providing audiences with thrills and chills along the way.
Muzzle is an AMC+ exclusive film starring Stephen Lang and Aaron Eckhart, created by John Stalberg Jr. This solid, slow-burn suspense thriller follows an LAPD K-9 officer named Jake Rosser who, on an unfortunate day, gets into a shootout with local drug dealers but loses his partner, Ace, to a lethal gunshot wound.
In a desperate situation, Jake attempts to get an EMT to take a look at Ace in case he is still alive but ends up assaulting him when he refuses. Jake is now restrained by his own superiors, who believe he is too rash for his profession. Seeing no other option, Jake takes matters into his own hands and goes rogue, teaming up with another violent rogue officer named Socks, who has a mysterious background, to unearth the conspiracy responsible for the death of his fellow officer, Ace.
Martin Luther King Jr. left an indelible mark on the nation of America, with his speeches having a profound effect on the citizens throughout the twentieth century. MLK/FBI, a documentary film released in 2020, does an excellent job of summarizing King’s accomplishments as well as how the FBI tried to undermine civil rights during his lifetime.
It delves into the newly declassified files and shows archive footage of King, bringing the legend himself to the screen. Following its premiere, the film received a 99% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and it will be released on AMC+ on Jan. 15 in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
These films used vérité to create some of the most memorable entertainment in film history, proving that truth is often stranger than fiction.
The Origin of Evil is Sebastien Marnier’s dramatic thriller that presents a convoluted tale of deceit and betrayal reminiscent of HBO’s Succession, which could sweep the Emmy Awards this year. Released in 2022, the film will finally be available on AMC+ on Jan. 19, and if you haven’t seen it yet, here is your chance. Nathalie Cordier spent her life deceiving others and growing more selfish each year, only to find herself in financial bankruptcy.
As her situation worsens, she reconnects with her estranged father, who has grown immensely wealthy and started a new family. Now that she has a massive wealth that she never believed would be feasible in her lifetime, what would she do to attain it? Especially when she is not even the chosen successor of her father’s painstakingly built fortune. The film has notable performances by Laure Calamity, Dominique Blanc, Jacques Weber, and Doria Tiller.
