House of the Dragon’slatest casting news just confirmed that one of the most brutal deaths in Game of Thrones history will happen in the show. House of the Dragon season 3 is currently filming, with set photos revealing several moments straight from Fire & Blood.
The story of House of the Dragon is based on supplementary books related to George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice & Fire novels, so when casting announcements are made, we already know what role they’re likely to play in the story. That said, changes made for the TV adaptation are always possible.
A recent casting announcement revealed that British actor and comedian Adam Brown (The Hobbit) is being added to season 3 as Glendon Footly. In the book, this character is simply known as Lord Footly, and is the Lord of Tumbleton during the Dance of the Dragons.
If you haven’t heard of Lord Footly, that’s okay. He’s not a major character by any means; he’s simply a man who’s tied to major events that he’s vastly unqualified for. Being the Lord of Tumbleton places him in a difficult position, as it’s a centralized location in the Reach that’s caught between the marching forces of the Greens and King’s Landing.
I’ll try to write about Lord Footly without spoiling much about what transpires in Tumbleton, but let’s just say that it’s a small market town that has no business being the site of a dragon battle, and yet it is. Multiple times. The Game of Thrones world is filled with unforgettable minor characters, and I believe Footly will be one of them.

If we learned anything about dragon fights from Game of Thrones’ Battle of the Goldroad, it’s that dragons can be incredibly devastating against caravans and food supply. Unfortunately for Tumbleton, being caught in the crossfire of dragons isn’t the only source of suffering.
Ser Jon Roxton is another character cast for House of the Dragon season 3 who fights for the Greens. He wields a Valyrian steel sword called Orphan-Maker and is distinguished for his temper, and is part of the host of Greens who march from the Reach to support the Hightowers.
During a power struggle, Jon Roxton tries to take control of that host, claiming Lord Footly’s wife, Lady Sharis Footly, as a “prize of war.” When Lord Footly objects to this matter, Jon cuts him nearly in half with Orphan-Maker, stating, “She can make widows too,” about his sword.
We’ve seen the strength of Valyrian steel in House of the Dragon season 1, when Daemon sliced Vaemond Velaryon’s head open like a pineapple. This will be fairly similar, but even more brutal due to Lord Footly’s degrading experience throughout the Tumbleton arc.
