Gen V Season 2 is finally set to premiere on Prime Video next month, but viewers can catch up or experience the popular superhero series for the first time without a streaming subscription. The first season of Gen V is currently free to stream — but there are a few catches.
Starting August 21, Gen V Season 1 is available to stream for free on Sony Pictures Core, an application exclusively on Sony devices, like a Bravia TV and Sony PlayStation 5. The entire first season is watchable on the app until September 21, a few days after Season 2 premieres on Prime Video on September 17. The one major caveat for PlayStation users is that they must be subscribed to the PlayStation Plus Premium tier, an online service that allows players access to an extensive game library and exclusive content.
Although there are a few hoops to climb, Gen V getting a free release is exciting news for fans of The Boys universe. It’s also a great show in its own right, boasting a Certified Fresh 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, the second-highest score among the raunchy superhero franchises. With Season 2 on the way, it’s the perfect time to binge the first season and watch a group of young super-powered students at Godlkin University uncover a conspiracy that could change the status quo as they know it. The official synopsis for Gen V Season 1:
Set in the diabolical world of The Boys, Gen V expands the universe to Godolkin University, the prestigious superhero-only college where students train to be the next generation of heroes—preferably with lucrative endorsements. You know what happens when supes go bad, but not all superheroes start out corrupt. Beyond the typical college chaos of finding oneself and partying, these kids are facing explosive situations … literally. As the students vie for popularity and good grades, it’s clear that the stakes are much higher when super powers are involved. When the group of young supes discover that something bigger and sinister is going on at school, they’re put to the test: Will they be the heroes or the villains of their stories?
