Welcome to Derry’s Pennywise Plot Twists Possibly Spoiled by Figures

August 12, 2025 - Movies

Little is known about HBO’s upcoming It: Welcome to Derry prequel series, but a new look at some Funko Pops may have spoiled what fans should expect to see of Pennywise the clown.

What’s the potential spoiler from It: Welcome to Derry?

The new line of Funko Pops from the upcoming series seem to all but confirm that the prequel series will delve into the mysterious past of Pennywise the Clown (played by Bill Skarsgård). The new Funko Pops shown off were all of Pennywise at various stages of his life.

While fans had previously theorized that, we now have a bit more confirmation. These include looks at him as Pennywise and Bob Gray, the human version of Pennywise that was very briefly shown off in 2019’s It Chapter Two. The other Pops shown off were of Pennywise holding a balloon alongside a circus wagon and a mysterious creature known as the “Skeleton Man.”

Andy Muschietti, who directed It and It Chapter Two, developed Welcome to Derry alongside Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs. Andy Muschietti is directing four episodes in the nine-episode series.

Andy and Barbara Muschietti also serve as executive producers alongside Skarsgård, Fuchs, Brad Caleb Kane, David Coatsworth, Shelley Meals, Roy Lee, and Dan Lin. Fuchs and Kane serve as co-showrunners.

“Set in the world of Stephen King’s It universe, Welcome to Derry is based on King’s It novel,” reads the series’ current description. “It expands the vision established by filmmaker Andy Muschietti in the feature films It and It Chapter Two.”

Welcome to Derry is set to release sometime in October on HBO. It, meanwhile, is currently streaming on Apple TV+ for subscribers, while It Chapter Two is available to rent on various streaming platforms such as Apple TV+, Amazon Prime Video, and more.
