Young & Restless’ Sharon Case on Why Picking Daytime Emmy Submission was ‘Difficult’

For longtime The Young & the Restless fans, Sharon Case is a total staple in daytime TV thanks to her role as Sharon Newman. In 2025, she received a Daytime Emmy nomination, which she describes as a “real milestone.” Recently, she shared that selecting the scenes to submit for consideration was much more challenging than she had anticipated.

Sharon Case says putting together her reel for the Lead Actress Emmy was no easy job. With so many powerful scenes from The Young & the Restless, she found it tough to pick which ones really showed her best work.

In her interview with Soap Opera Digest, she called the nomination “a real milestone” in her career, especially after spending so many years on the show.

She wanted her reel to show Sharon’s emotional highs, lows, and growth over time, which made the whole process pretty nerve-wracking. Sharon said, “The scenes from the storyline of Heather’s murder, I knew I wanted to use that. I immediately knew the two scenes that are really the best, but they timed out so long, and we can only put [a maximum of] 15 minutes on the reel. So I had to come up with a different plan for my reel. I’m happy with it, but it was a difficult choice.”

Sharon Case is up against some serious competition this year. On The Young & the Restless, she’s sharing the category with names like Eileen Davidson (Ashley Abbott), Melissa Claire Egan (Chelsea Lawson), and Michelle Stafford (Phyllis Newman). In a chat with NBC Right Now, she admitted it’s a “very strong year,” saying just being nominated feels like the “prize” itself when the lineup is packed with so much talent.

Sharon Case has played Sharon Newman for decades, during which her character has seen a fair share of mental health struggles and relationship drama.
