Lee Musgrave – Art and Cake

June 10, 2024 - Art

Lee Musgrave
White Salmon, WA
Age 80

What keeps you excited in the studio?
That I’m healthy enough to work in my studio everyday.

Looking back at your trajectory as an artist, how would you say your work has developed?
As an National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship recipient for painting, my art has been in 21 solo and over 100 group exhibitions world-wide plus been featured in numerous magazines/online platforms. For 2024, it will be in 5 exhibitions including at the Kingsborough Art Museum, Brooklyn, NY.

What role do you think the artist has in today’s society?
Through their creativeness, artists give meaning to the saying “express yourself”.

What’s the most important advice you could give to an aspiring artist?
Be true to yourself.

Does age matter in art? Why or why not?
No … you are never to young or to old to be artistic. All that matters is that you know yourself well enough to express your feelings and ideas effectively.

What can we look forward to from you next?
I will complete the third novel in my James Terra Mystery series and continue promoting my historic fiction novel, The Beautiful One.

Is there anything else you would like to share about being an artist later in life?
I have thousands of wonderful memories of the people and places I’ve experienced because I am an artist.
