Sporting Luthor’s bald head and wearing the villain’s Warsuit (which allows him to go toe-to-toe with the Man of Steel) one wonders why Howerton has not been a fan-casted favorite for the role for longer. Well, now that DC fans have seen what Howerton as Luthor could look like, they want it in Superman: Legacy.

No one has yet been cast as Luthor in the Superman reboot, Superman: Legacy, though there have been rumors that The Menu and Mad Max: Fury Road star Nicholas Hoult did audition for both Clark Kent and Luthor. Whatever happens, there will now be many a disappointed fan should Howerton not be given the role of Superman’s archenemy.

Glenn Howerton is best recognized for starring as the narcissistic psychopath Dennis Reynolds in the critically acclaimed sitcom, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. The actor has recently been praised for his performance in the biographical comedy-drama BlackBerry in which, purely coincidentally, he portrays bald-headed businessman Jim Balsillie.

Lex Luthor is not the first comic book character that fans have thrown Glenn Howerton’s way, with many feeling that his swagger and skills for comedy would make the perfect fit for the superhero Reed Richards, aka Mister Fantastic in the MCU’s Fantastic Four. And this casting is also something that Howerton would be eager to pursue…

“Somehow, in my mind, there’s no chance that anything that I will ever do will be watched by people, and I don’t know what that is, I think it’s this sort of perpetual underdog thing that I feel, which makes no sense,” the actor said earlier this year. “But, no, look, it would be super fun, and obviously, the director, Matt Shakman, is a very close friend and an absolutely incredible director, so it’d be super fun to work with him again. But aint nobody called me about that yet, but I would accept that phone call.”

For now, the casting of the Fantastic Four remains a mystery, though several rumors have been circulating recently. Fantastic Four is currently scheduled to be released on May 2, 2025, as part of Phase Six of the MCU.

Superman: Legacy meanwhile is currently in development and is scheduled to be released on 11 July 2025. Written and directed by James Gunn and co-produced by himself and Peter Safran, Superman: Legacy will be the first film movie of the DCU and will star David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.
