Laura Kinney – the second Wolverine and the original’s daughter – has a new identity in X-Men lore, and now she’s finally explaining why she made the change. X-Men just entered the wild new Age of Revelation, leaping ahead ten years to find its heroes and villains transformed like never before.
One of the biggest shocks of all is that Laura Kinney is now calling herself Sabretooth, taking the name of Wolverine’s vicious nemesis. While the precise reason for the codename is yet to be revealed, an official preview of Laura Kinney: Sabretooth #1 confirms that she is a true believer in this world’s villainous regime, thanks to Revelation’s promise to protect all mutants.
Laura is so committed to Revelation’s regime that she’s seemingly willing to battle her siblings in this preview. Fans had speculated that Laura was only working for Revelation because he has corrupted Wolverine to his side and she was looking for a way to free him, however her narration seemingly puts that theory to rest. The issue comes from Erica Schultz, Valentina Pinti, Rachelle Rosenberg and Cory Petit.

As of October 1, the entire X-Men line has entered the Age of Revelation – an ambitious event set ten years into the future. In this world, the villainous Revelation has unleashed a virus on America, killing most humans and turning the survivors into mutants. Meanwhile, he’s founded his own nation, with loyal followers who boost his powers to godlike levels.

Various heroes have been forced to serve Revelation’s regime, but Laura Kinney is seemingly doing so willingly, radicalized by human attacks on the mutant nation. Quite how Laura has forgiven Revelation’s enslavement of Wolverine isn’t clear, nor why she’s taken the name of one of the most evil mutants ever to exist. However, Dan Jurgens’ cover shows Laura mourning a slaughtered Sabretooth.

Perhaps Victor Creed was turned heroic by Revelation and Laura’s perspective on him changed over the ten years since fans last saw her. Whatever the reason, Laura looks awesome as Sabretooth, with her new costume utilizing his traditional ‘mane’ on her collar, boots and gloves, with the latter serving to draw attention to her death-dealing claws.

Age of Revelation is rewriting everything fans know about the X-Men franchise, with heroes becoming villains and villains becoming gods. Literally no-one ever expected Laura Kinney to take up Sabretooth’s legacy, but with the explanation of years spent fighting off genocidal humans to protect Revelation’s mutant haven, it’s starting to make sense that she signed up with the villain. Fans will find out more about Laura’s transformation and why she went from Wolverine to Sabretooth as the series continues.
