Wednesday season 2 introduced new family dynamics, friendships, mysteries — and, of course, romances. ScreenRant’s new Debunking AI series took an unorthodox role to exploring one of the show’s love triangles this week. While Wednesday’s best friend Enid paired up with the sweet Gorgon Ajax (Georgie Farmer) in season 1, her self-exploration after getting to know the Wolf Pack resulted in the blossoming of a new relationship with fellow werewolf Bruno (Noah Taylor).
Though the boys have an awkward rivalry onscreen thanks to the Enid in the room, their real-life relationship is far from icy. The pair revealed themselves to be childhood friends, which ironically boosted the stakes of their scenes together throughout Wednesday season 2. Their camaraderie was on full display while debunking AI, from finishing others’ sentences as they hyped their characters to laughing about Taylor’s so-called secret identity (according to the sometimes highly fallible artificial intelligence, that is).
Things got off on the right foot, with AI accurately assessing Farmer’s background and career thus far – complete with gentle ribbing from his friend, who reminded him, “Don’t be so self-deprecating. You’re a star!” Though he acknowledged his interest in performing arts began from an early age, he added some color to the robotic biography by regaling ScreenRant with the following childhood tale:
I should add that when I was six or seven, I remember – you guys call it soccer, but – football in the UK is a big thing. I would be playing football every weekend, but I was hopeless. I was hopeless. I was always picked last for the teams, and it was like, if all the other kids couldn’t make it, “We’ll just put Georgie in.” So, I guess my mom and dad were like, “Ah, let’s send him to theater school.”
The all-knowing AI stumbled, however, when attempting to identify Taylor. It first confused him with the 56-year-old Australian actor (whose birthday it currently is!) of the same name. Farmer gamely teased his friend, saying, “You’ve been doing this a long time, man. You haven’t aged one bit!” As it turns out, this was not the first time Taylor had confronted the coincidence.
The funny thing about that is I wanted to be an actor in middle school, so I looked up my name. I saw him, and I was like, “I can’t! They took it.” I didn’t know that there could be multiple people with the same name, so I gave up.
Farmer pointed out that even IMDb mistakenly added the veteran actor’s profile to the Wednesday cast list, which certainly added to the layers of mystery surrounding his character before season 2 premiered.
The actors were quick to agree on the status of their character dynamics according to AI, confirming that, “We have a good rivalry going on.” But as Farmer clarified, “We like to say we’re bitter rivals onscreen and on the court, but best of friends in real life.” Their friendship is so strong, in fact, that it has at times interfered with their filming. As Taylor detailed:
It’s funny, in one of the first scenes we had to shoot, I had to be angry at him, and I was really struggling. We practiced it the night before, and I was really struggling to look at him without laughing. So, I googled his name and stared at pictures of him for a while, and I tried to get angry. It didn’t work! The next day I saw him and broke immediately.
Farmer laughed at the recollection, adding, “Maybe it’s just my lack of professionalism as an actor, but whenever I would do a scene where Noah and I would have eye contact, I would always try and avoid it for as long as I could.” One thing their friendship wouldn’t get in the way of, though, is debating whether Ajax or Bruno would win in a fight.
You are fast in your wolf form. I could go to rip off my beanie, but then you could just launch at me.
Despite Gorgons being a nearly unstoppable force due to their instant petrification ability, Taylor pointed out that Ajax “has to wear that beanie all the time,” and even stoned himself without it once, making his power unpredictable. Farmer quoted another great hero of fiction: “Sometimes it can work in the reverse, and sometimes the strength is just too much. With great power comes great responsibility.”
How would Taylor avoid the stoning? “Here’s what I’m thinking: I’d close my eyes.” Farmer offered another point in his friend’s favor. “You are fast in your wolf form. I could go to rip off my beanie, but then you could just launch at me.” At the end of the day, “It depends on who had a better breakfast.” Taylor said.
Farmer and Taylor didn’t just spend the whole Debunking AI episode hyping each other’s characters and fighting tricks; they also spared a moment to sing leading lady Jenna Ortega’s praises. Though they debunked the notion that Ortega was intense and often stayed in character between takes on the set of Wednesday, they did acknowledge how hardworking she was.
The great thing about Jenna is that she’s very respectful to everyone she works with
“She’s definitely focused,” Farmer clarified. “She has such a big responsibility. She has a very hard job. Being Wednesday Addams is probably one of the hardest things. But I wouldn’t say she’s intense. I’d say she’s very friendly, and the great thing about her is that she’s very respectful to everyone she works with.“
She knows everyone’s name on the set, and she’s always wanting to know about other people and their day. She’s always asking about people in between takes and stuff like that. She’s great, and we’re very lucky.
As for their final verdict on AI itself? “It was kind of scary how good that was,” Taylor admitted. “Kind of scary,” Farmer agreed cheekily. “But I’m glad it found out Noah’s true identity.”
All episodes of Wednesday season 2 are now streaming on Netflix.
