In Dragon Ball lore, Goku and the rest of the Z-Warriors are always ready to defend Earth and its people from the latest evil villain threatening their lives. Constantly attacked by overpowered enemies like Cell, Majin Buu, and, of course, Frieza, a new piece of fanart has flipped the protector status of the Z-Fighters, officially turning Yamcha, Yajirobe, Tien, Krillin, and Chiaotzu into the latest ruthless members of the Frieza Force.

An image recently shared on Instagram by Salva (@salvamakoto), this artistic talent specializes in creating unique artwork featuring iconic Dragon Ball characters by bringing Goku across franchise lines to hang out with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Superman, and even a few characters from Pokemon and Digimon fame.

Also excelling at dreaming up “What if?” scenarios that showcase Goku’s Super Saiyan 5 form, Raditz transforming into a Giant Ape, Goku Black fighting Toyotaro’s fan-made character of Xicor, and more, Salva wows with an art style that would make Akira Toriyama proud, with this latest piece being no exception.

A close-knit group of fighters unofficially led by Goku, the martial arts talents of Yamcha, Yajirobe, Tien, Krillin, and Chiaotzu have proven to be invaluable in a pinch, especially during the earlier sagas of Dragon Ball Z. And while all strong and heroic in their own right, this lineup has essentially been phased out of being helpful in Dragon Ball Super thanks to the god-level power put on display by Goku and Vegeta. But after joining Frieza’s army, the gang’s turn to the dark side instantly makes them relevant again, showing just how formidable a Z-Warrior gone rogue can be.

Lined up five across, Salva draws Yamcha, Yajirobe, Tien, Krillin, and Chiaotzu dressed in differing sets of Saiyan armor, with each similarly wearing a piece of scouter tech given to every member of the Frieza Force, with Chiaotzu, interestingly enough, looking to be the only ex-Z-Warrior sporting a full-length scouter display. Each smirking or frowning with an expected sense of danger and ego stemming from their new roles as the bad guys, Salva nails the base designs of these heroes-turned-villains while making them feel as if they’ve always belonged on Frieza’s team.

Frieza’s Army Adds Dragon Ball’s Best Z-Fighters To Its Roster In Unique Redesigns

Suggesting with the background art that this piece takes place during the Namek Saga, just as Frieza, his army, and eventually, the similarly dressed Ginyu Force, are introduced, Salva satisfies a craving to see some of the best Z-Fighters break bad, giving fans a scenario that could be part of Dragon Ball Super’s many alternate timelines or overall multiverse. Dragon Ball’s Yamcha, Yajirobe, Tien, Krillin, and Chiaotzu look great as members of Frieza’s army, but for the safety and best interests of their friends and the innocent people around them, let’s hope this lineup doesn’t become canon anytime soon.
